Maruti hikes prices upto Rs 5,000
The highest increase is for the auto LPG models, which are increasingly becoming popular due to low LPG cost.

New Delhi: Maruti Udyog Ltd (MUL) hiked the prices of most models on Tuesday with immediate effect.

The lowest increase of Rs 500 is for all models of the popular M800, Alto Lx and Lxi, Omni cargo and eight-seater.

The hike in prices of most models of Esteem, Versa and Baleno Lxi is Rs 1,000.

Except for the Swift, Zen, Baleno (Vxi) and WagonR (petrol) models, prices are increased in a range of Rs 500-5,000.

"The increase, which comes into effect from today, varies from 0.17 per cent to 1.47 per cent," the company said in a statement on Tuesday.

"The price increase is due to a rise in input costs and freight costs, which increased following the rise in oil prices. In this phase, the company has decided to pass on only a part of the increase in costs to the customers," the company said.

The highest increase is for the auto LPG models, which are increasingly becoming popular due to comparatively higher cost of petrol and diesel.

Omni Cargo LPG will now cost Rs 2,000 more, while Omni LPG price has been hiked by Rs 3,000 and WagonR LPG models by Rs 5,000 more.

Maruti sold 46,408 vehicles in July, including 1,755 units overseas. While overall sales witnessed a growth of 3.7 per cent over the corresponding month last year, there was a sharp drop of 58.2 per cent in exports.

Sales data released Tuesday by Maruti showed that in the four-month period from April-July, there has been a 14 per cent growth with Alto, Zen, WagonR and Swift enjoying more demand and recording 22 per cent growth in sales.

Exports during the four-month period have been down by 13.5 per cent compared to the corresponding period last year.
