In an initiative to revitalise schools in rural and semi-urban India, Coca-Cola India and World Vision India jointly pledged USD 500,000 to help 50 schools under the Support My School campaign. The initiative kicked off on Wednesday at the Government Higher Secondary School in MKB Nagar, Vyasarpadi.
The partnership, under the framework of the internationally recognised ‘Support My School’ campaign, will aim to create a happy and healthy environment in schools for children across India by providing basic amenities such as clean water and sanitation. For the purpose, 50 schools have already been identified and the campaign will soon commence interventions for the same.
Vishnu, a representative for World Vision India, said, “Work will first begin here at the MKB Nagar Government School. We plan to provide lavatory and drinking water facilities, renovate the dining area and implement a rainwater harvesting system.”
K Chandrasekar, District Educational Officer, Chennai - North, said “I am happy to see such a proactive effort to combat the growing trend of children dropping out of schools in rural areas. By providing the necessary sanitation and essential infrastructure, this campaign has given a ray of hope to students all over country.”
Dr Jayakumar Christian, CEO and National Director, World Vision India, said that it is their aim to make ‘fullness of life’ a reality for every child. “Support My School is helping to change the education landscape across rural India, one school at a time. The basic amenities provided through this campaign will go a long way in encouraging students to stay in school and pursue their dreams in rural and semi-urban schools across the country.”
“We are pleased to have completed 100 schools in the first season of Coca-Cola’s ‘Support My School’ campaign”, said S Giri Sunder, Zonal Vice President, Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages Pvt Ltd. “These efforts with World Vision India will be a part of Season 2.
