The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Examination (CSE) is known for its rigorous selection process. It continues to be the country’s one of the most sought-after examinations. UPSC aspirants dream of cracking the examination and becoming a public servant by shouldering immense responsibility. The recently declared UPSC CSE 2023 results are an example, showcasing candidates from different walks of life and backgrounds taking the exams and shining. One such candidate is Ayushi Pradhan. She is a resident of Baripada, Odisha. She has been an exemplary student throughout her academic period. She secured 93.5% in class 10th from St Anne’s Convent School. In class 12th, she secured 93% marks from Mother’s Public School, Bhubaneswar. After completing her schooling, she pursued a computer engineering degree from the College of Engineering and Technology (CET).

Ayushi Pradhan began preparing for her Master in Business Administration (MBA), which she gave up and instead shifted her focus to UPSC exams. She attempted UPSC thrice and finally, at the age of 26, she became an IAS officer.

Ayushi Pradhan was always good at studies. Her father is a bank employee and her mother is a homemaker. Ever since she was a kid, she had a dream of creating a distinct identity for herself for which she worked hard. Although there were many obstacles in her journey, she refused to give up and did not stray away from her goal.

In the first UPSC CSE attempt, Ayushi Pradhan qualified for the interview round. But she missed out by only 13 marks. She secured 334th rank on the second attempt of the UPSC exam. She landed a government job in the Indian Defence Estate Service (IDES) and began her training to fulfil her dream of becoming an IAS officer.

In 2023, she once again attempted the exam along with the training of IDES and this time she secured 36th rank all over India. She also got selected for the IAS cadre. Currently, she’s an officer trainee in IDES and soon her IAS training will begin. She will have to stay at Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) in Mussoorie, Uttarakhand for two years.

According to Ayushi Pradhan, she left her job and MBA to become an IAS officer. She did all the preparation while staying at home. She also watched a lot of videos related to her subjects, made notes and understood the concepts thoroughly. She solved many test papers in previous years, UPSC papers, which helped her understand the UPSC exam pattern.

Despite her technical background, Ayushi Pradhan chose Anthropology as her UPSC optional subject. To prepare for this, she had to double up her efforts. Since the subject was new to her, she had less time and she was also working in the technical field. This was quite a risk she took with her career. But she nailed it without losing her courage.
