New Delhi: Ahead of US President Barack Obama's upcoming visit, the third and perhaps final round of talks in the India-US civil nuclear agreement is on.
Sources say the US has softened its stand over a key sticking point with regard to the 'Nuclear Liability Law'. Earlier, it was unhappy over law making supplier liable in case of a nuclear accident.
According to sources India has made it clear that the law making the supplier liable for any nuclear accident will not change. However, it has now proposed that a $250 million insurance pool will be set up with money from all stakeholders to pay off liabilities.
If sources are to be believed, US is close to accepting the proposal. The crucial meeting is likely to take place in Washington ahead of President Obama's India visit.
Sources add there has been tremendous progress in negotiations after a contact group was set up to iron out differences after Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to US in 2014.
