A refund from school
A refund from school

A Hungarian play by Fritz Karinthy has been translated into English by Percival Wilde, directed by Narayan S, and will be staged by theatre group Sutradhar under the title of The Refund. This play is about Vidyarthi, who has always been a failure in his life — has been fired from any job he has takes up and is short of money now. Frustration sets in and he blames the school education for his failure.

Asking for a refund of his school fees seems to be the only plausible option in ahead of him. The Principal of his school is befuddled by this strange request, and cannot accept Vidyarthi’s demand.  However, both of them agree to a strange proposition — Vidyarthi will appear for a re-examination and if he fails in any subject in the exam, he will get the refund. The principal falls back on his dependable teachers to bail him out of this situation. Who will win this duel — Vidyarthi or the school? Does Vidyarthi pass the exam or does he get The Refund?

You can find out by heading over to Lamakan, Banjara Hills, on September 30, at 7:30 pm.
