HYDERABAD: By suspending eight Telangana Congress MPs from the Lok Sabha for four days, the Congress party high command seems to be trying to kill two birds with one stone. The party thought it would be helping the MPs gain sympathy in Parakal in Warangal district and enable the party to put up a decent performance in the byelection. It also wanted to send a message to the coastal Andhra, where by elections for 17 Assembly seats will be held on June 12, that the party is acting tough on Telangana forces.Telangana Congress MPs have been using every opportunity to draw the Centre’s attention of the stathood issue and even supported BJP leader Sushma Swaraj on it in the House. In the last session they stalled the proceedings.According to sources, AICC president Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi have been discussing the Telangana issue with party leaders for the past three days.Ghulam Nabhi Azad told Telangana MPs the high command needed some more time to arrive at a decision and urged the MPs not to obstruct the House.Vayalar Ravi also has made a similar appeal.Nalgonda MP Gutta Sukhendar Reddy told Express that the party had to make its stand clear on the bifurcation issue.Since the Congress high command did not seem keen on revocation of their suspension, the suspended MPs would continue their agitation outside Parliament, he said and claimed that the Samajwadi Party, NCP and Trinamool Congress strongly opposed their suspension.Apparently aware of the Congress’ gameplan to help its candidate ride the sympathy wave and win the Parakal byelection, TRS chief KCR has warned that the people of the region would not forgive the Congress for what it had done to its own MPs.
