KOTTAYAM: People in the town were put to much difficulties as hundreds of autorickshaws went off the road on Monday protesting against the attack on them by some unidentified people.Even as some of the autorickshaws were seen plying in the town, a majority of the drivers struck work following a call by the CITU and the BMS against the attack on Sunday night. According to CITU autorickhshaw workers’ union leader Sunil Thomas the police should take steps to book a few autorickshaw drivers who are engaged in illegal activities near the KSRTC bus station. They would wait at unauthorised places to pick up gullible travellers and fleece them. He said there are drivers engaged in drug peddling and flesh trade. Three drivers Haridas, 45, Babu, 40, and Rajesh had sustained injuries in the attack and were admitted to the Kottayam District Hospital. Meanwhile, the crew of a local television channel was allegedly targeted by an autorickshaw worker when they were trying to shoot some of the drivers blocking an autorickshaw. The leaders of the CITU and BMS timely intervened and diffused the situation.
