BBMP to start more colleges

BANGALORE: If everything goes well, the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will start more degree  colleges in Bangalore.The BBMP has started one degree college in Kasturba Nagar, where they offer BA and BCom courses. The purpose to start this is to help students from the Below Poverty Line (BPL) families, who have passed their pre-university courses. The Palike has already paid the initial deposit of Rs. 50,000 to the education department to set up a degree college.According to the BBMP officials, the Palike may not be able to fund the BSc courses due to financial constraints in creating the facilities like laboratories and so on, required for the courses. Though intake of students in the first year had been restricted to 80 each in arts and commerce  with two sections in each stream, around 40 students are studying in this college. “This is first time that the Palike has started a degree college and we are sure that more number of students will join from next year,” officials said. Speaking to City Express, Ramesh Raju, chairman for education and sports committee said that they are also planning to start more degree colleges in Bangalore. “We have teachers who are PhD holders. There will be well qualified to be the teaching staff,” he assured
