Big B adds glitz to Mulayam poll show
Amitabh Bachchan on Friday kickstarted an early election campaign for Samajwadi Party in Gorakhpur.

Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh): Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan on Friday kickstarted an early election campaign for Samajwadi Party ahead of the upcoming UP Assembly polls.

However, UP Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav denied that the superstar would be campaigning for the party and added that he would be only present to see the development of the state.

"This is a cause for immense happiness that he (Amitabh Bachchan) came, but Jaya Bachchan (Bachchan's wife) will do the election campaigning, not him, but he is a member of the Uttar Pradesh Development Council and the people will tell how well the development work goes," said Yadav.

Attend a public function of the party; Amitabh distributed cheques for the Kanya Vidya Dhan (Girls' education fund) and Unemployment Allowance scheme.

Bachchan is a member of the Uttar Pradesh Development Council and though he is not directly involved in politics, he has campaigned several times for the regional Samajwadi Party in the past.

While addressing the crowds, Bachchan praised Mulayam Singh Yadav and said that he was happy with the development of the state.
