Goa: There are very few who can claim to have their lives shaped by one thought, one idea or even that one person. But for Zarine Fernandes, its been a lifetime spent having her worldview shaped by an actor.
Zarine has been idolising Amitabh Bachchan for over 30 years. Though the Big B is no stranger to fan adulation, she is one of his lucky fans.
Fernandes has been an ardent fan since Big B's Anand and Kabhie Kabhie days. "Its been 30 exciting years. Every moment has been special," she says.
So when she got the news of the superstar being admitted to hospital, she shot off a mail wishing him well.
And Bachchan replied.
"He sent me an e-mail saying, 'thank you' when we told him we are praying for him. He said, 'I still have a long way to go'," says an excited Zarine.
"But I did not realise by long way, he meant the operation. I thought it meant he will get well soon. But this operation thing has put me off completely," says the distraught Goan.
Those turning green with envy over Zarine's 'priviledged' status, should know that earlier she wasn't just another one of those screaming fan, who would pop-up at every shoot of his.
"I think there came a time when he expected this 'Amit scream' whenever he was in Goa. Then as the years passed, I graduated from being a screaming fan to being invited over to his house. That was after 1991," she reminisces.
Fernandes says it was Amitabh who nurtured her "fanship".
"It was not just giving me an autograph and telling me to go. He would recognise me whereever I was."
She goes on to narrate one such instance. "Once in Mumbai, we were standing in front of his house and his car came zooming past. Suddenly, the car braked and out came Amitji. He asked me what I was doing and when I had come to Mumbai. People who were with me were stunned".
Fernandes, who is still single, says she has not married because of Big B. "There is no other man in my life because nobody comes up to the level you are at," she wrote in one of her letters to him.
