NEYYATINKARA: On its first anniversary, the BJP leaders came down heavily upon the UDF Government for totally surrendering the state to the Muslim League. They were participating in the day-long fast observed by O Rajagopal, the national executive member and the candidate for the Neyyatinkara bypoll.  In his inaugural address, national executive member and former state president C K Padmanabhan said that the UDF had written off the state administration to the Muslim League, a party which was instrumental in the partition of India.“Both the Fronts have ditched the voters of Neyyatinkara by presenting two turncoats as their candidates,” he said. Padmanabhan reminded the achievements made by Rajagopal while he was a Minister of State in charge of Railways and the services he provided to the state, especially to the capital district. O Rajagopal, in his address, criticised the UDF Government for derailing the spirit of the constitution, the constitutional tradition and  political decency during the past one year in power.“If things are progressing in the present manner, democracy in the state will be jeopardised in future which will pave way for theocracy,” he cautioned. He alleged that extremist elements had crept into the Muslim League in recent times. Rajagopal said that rising the number of ministers from a particular community is not the real issue, instead, the  method  to achieve the goal. He minced no words against his opponent Selvaraj, the UDF candidate, as the BJP leader termed his defection as a political corruption. The veteran leader’s fast, which started at 10 a.m., lasted for eight hours.
