KOCHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Kochi unit conducted raids on eight star hotels in Malabar region on Tuesday, which allegedly achieved star ratings after bribing the India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) officials in Kochi. The CBI sources said that several documents were seized and the probe will look at whether more ITDC officials are involved in the scam. The current raids were conducted after CBI carried out similar raids in the ITDC office in Kochi and eight other hotels in the Malabar area early this month. The arrest and the legal action will take place after examining the documents, sources said. The CBI had arrested three ITDC officials Velu Murugan, Assistant Director of ITDC in Kochi, Sabu, Tourist Information Officer and Radhakrishnan, an ITDC staff. The CBI seized Rs 4.5 lakh after the raids at the ITDC office and at the residences of those arrested. A case has been registered against them for criminal conspiracy and also under the Prevention of Corruption Act. They were granted bail later.
