KOCHI: The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has welcomed the Rail Budget-2012. Increased focus on safety and modernisation has met many pre-budget recommendations made by the CII. The increase in fares after several years will impart greater flexibility to future requirements, they pointed out.New bodies have been announced for safety, logistics support, tariff regulation, housekeeping and research and development. The five-point agenda relates to safety, consolidation, modernisation, capacity augmentation and decongestion.V K Mathews, chairman, CII Kerala State Council pointed out that the MEMU trains along Kochi-Thrissur and Palakkad-Coimbatore will help in faster and better connectivity. “The MEMU train facility is the right solution for a better mobility. The trains will support the Kochi-Coimbatore industrial corridor,” he said. C J George, vice-chairman, CII Kerala State Council, said the proposed coach terminal in Kottayam and Wagon factory in Cherthala will help in the holistic development of Central Kerala. “This will create job opportunities to the younger generation,” he said.
