New Delhi: In a major security scare at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi a grenade shell was recovered on Wednesday morning by the Central Reserve Police Force. The bomb disposal squad was called in and found that the shell was empty.
The CISF checked the cargo but could not find any more empty shells. CISF authorities say the grenade shell was not part of any cargo.
The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security is conducting an enquiry into the matter.
The incident comes even as Union Home Minister P Chidambaram is holding a high-level security review meet in New Delhi. Chidambaram is meeting the various agencies for a thorough review of all security arrangements being put in place for the Commonwealth Games that are just 32 days away.
Security agencies will be taking over the Games venues soon to ensure security apparatus like metal detectors, CCTVs etc. are put in place before the estimated 10,000 athletes and officials along with 5 lakh spectators arrive.
