CUTTACK: Shaken by allegations of death of a woman due to alleged negligence at the City Hospital, the third within one and half months, the district administration on Friday ordered an enquiry into the incident. Collector Girish SN on Friday directed the CDMO Manorama Dei to conduct a thorough investigation into the state-of-affairs at the district headquarter hospital and submit her report within a day. The hospital, which has been facing the allegations of utter negligence in treatment and handling of patients as well as failure to provide proper health care services to the people of the city, was again in turmoil on Thursday night when a woman died. The 27-year-old Manju Nayak, wife of Varun Nayak of Alisha Bazaar had been admitted in the morning. In the evening she reportedly developed labour pain and was taken to the OT for delivery. She reportedly died soon after delivery allegedly owing to severe bleeding. Tension prevailed as locals took the hospital under siege alleging negligence and faulty treatment to the patient by the doctors. Police had to rush to the spot to diffuse the situation. A platoon of armed police was posted there till late in the night to prevent any untoward incident. The functioning of the hospital has also come under the scrutiny of the State Human Rights Commission seeking a report from the CDMO. The Commission is also set to probe the death of a 65-year-old woman and the incident of another woman giving birth to a stillborn child at its gate in June this year. On June 27, one Joharan Bibi had given birth to a dead boy child at the gates of the hospital after reportedly being dismissed without being admitted. She had apparently been ignorant of her pregnancy and had come to the hospital complaining of severe stomach pain. Her family members alleged that they were not allowed inside as they reached late in the afternoon and when they did go inside, the doctor advised ultrasound test and let her go. She gave birth while going out. Within 24 hours of the incident, another woman K Satyabhama (65) died in the hospital. Her kin also alleged that she was not given due attention and treatment as a result of which succumbed.
