PERUMBAVOOR: Tension prevailed in and around here as three persons illegally slaughtered a cow in a compound in front of a temple, here on Tuesday.  A police team led by DySP Harikrishnan rushed to the spot and took the three persons into custody. They are Muhammed, 49, of Mundakkal, Allappra, his son Anus, 23, and Razid, 18, of Karimbanakunnel, Allappra.Ernakulam Rural SP K P Philip and Special Branch DySP A Anilkumar also rushed to the spot and supervised the arrangements undertaken to prevent the spread of violence.However, hundreds of people who thronged the temple premises turned violent and attacked the police vehicles, causing damage to glass panes of three vehicles. The activists declared a hartal and organised a march in protest against the act.SP Philip told Express that the situation was under control. A strong contingent of police has been deployed in the area to prevent any untoward incident.“More police personnel from different stations and Kalamassery police camp have been deployed in the town. In addition to this, the officers of all stations in the district have been instructed to intensify patrolling throughout the night,” he said.The SP also urged the people to remain calm and ignore all kinds of rumours. The police took the carcass of the cow into custody, which will be examined by veterinary surgeons.
