CHENNAI: The CPM, an ally of the DMDK, won two municipalities and five town panchayats, besides scores of other local body positions. However, its ideological cousin, the CPI, drew a blank in most local bodies.The Marxist party emerged victorious in Kuzhithurai and Sivagana municipalities. It also bagged five town panchayats, including Eludesam and Villukuri in Kanyakumari district.While the CPM bagged two Corporation councillor posts, the CPI could not secure any municipalities or even a single Corporation councillor post. While the Marxists won 20 municipal councillor posts, the CPI won 10 such posts. The CPI, however, captured two town panchayat chairman posts.While the CPM secured 101 ward members in town panchayats, the CPI won in 33 positions. The MDMK, which faced the polls for the first time after boycotting the April Assembly elections, has won  the Kulithalai Municipality and seven town panchayat president posts. It includes Tiruvengadam, Tiruporur, Keeramangalam and Valvaithankostam. The party has also won nine corporation councillor positions. Meanwhile, in a statement here, MDMK general secretary Vaiko said that the poll results gave hope  for future victories.The PMK managed to win 58 municipal councillor posts, two town panchayat chairman posts and 108 town panchayat ward member posts, besides a Corporation councillor post (Ward 15) in Chennai. As regards the Manithaneya Makkal Katchi (MMK), it has won in its pockets of influence. Its candidate A Sadiq Ali won from 86th ward of Coimbatore Corporation. The party won 14 wards in Rameswaram, Kilakarai, Nellikuppan, Kadayanallur, Tenkasi, Tiruvarur and Kuthanallur. The VCK won 18 municipal councillor posts besides a councillor seat in Chennai Corporation.
