THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The All-Kerala Crusher Owners’ Association has urged the government to formulate special mining safety rules for the state considering its geographical peculiarities. Addressing mediapersons here on Friday, office-bearers of the Association said that they had submitted a memorandum to the government in this regard. The main demand is the formulation of a comprehensive quarry policy, they said. The small open cast quarries in the state too have to follow the rules for large-scale mining of coal, gold and iron. Unnecessary regulations are forcing many small-scale quarry operators to leave the profession. If the problem is not addressed, it will worsen the crisis in the construction sector, they said. The state-level meeting of the Association will be held at the Tagore Centenary Hall in Kozhikode on December 5. Revenue Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan will inaugurate the meeting at 10 am. Association general secretary M A Ali will preside over the inaugural function. General convener of the reception committee P C Abdul Kareem will welcome the gathering. A delegates’ meet, report presentation and seminar will be held as part of the meeting.
