Djokovic, backing up from a four-set defeat to Rafael Nadal in the U.S. Open final on Monday, won 12 consecutive games midway through Friday's singles and had no problem dispatching the Canadian ranked 41st.
Janko Tipsarevic faced Canada's top player, Milos Raonic, in the second singles later.
The winner will face either the Czech Republic or Argentina in the final in November.
