New Delhi: With just a day to go for the player auctions, the Indian Premier League franchisees continue to name their teams.
The Delhi team, owned by the GMR Group, will be called the Delhi Daredevils.
The name and the logo of the Delhi Daredevils was unveiled at the Ferozshah Kotla on Tuesday the name was chosen after an SMS poll in which 67 per cent people voted for it.
Vice-President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Rajiv Shukla and President of the Delhi District Cricket Association (DDCA) Arun Jaitley, too, were present at the launch.
In Chennai, India Cements Limited, too, unveiled the logo and the name of the team.
The Chennai team will be called the ‘Chennai Super Kings’. Former India captain Krishnamachary Srikkanth will be the brand ambassador of the team.
Other former players who were present at the function included Laxman Sivaramakrishnan, WV Raman and Bhagwat Chandrasekhar.
Meanwhile, after weeks of speculation 13 Australian players have signed the IPL contracts and will now be available for the player auctions on Tuesday in Mumbai.
Australian skipper Ricky Ponting, Adam Gilchrist, Andrew Symonds, and Brett Lee along with former greats such as Shane Warne, Glenn McGrath and Justin Langer have signed the contract.
The Hussey brothers, Michael and David have signed too. Interesting Michael Clarke isn't among the players who have signed on. Clarke cited a busy season ahead as the reason for not joining the IPL bandwagon.
Brad Haddin, widely expected to take over from the retiring Gilchrist as Australian wicketkeeper and left-arm seamer Mitchell Johnson have also decided to give the IPL a miss to focus on their international careers.
