THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A survey conducted by UEI Global Institute has revealed that 65 per cent of the students in Thiruvananthapuram opted for scholarships programmes in BBA courses, compared to the national average of 50 per cent. The survey was on ‘Demand for hotel management and BBA courses-2011’ among 5,076 aspiring students who enrolled for the Kapil Dev Scholarship Programme in key regions of India such as Thiruvananthapuram, Pune, Agra, Chandigarh, Faizabad, Faridabad, Jaipur, Lucknow and Rohini. It also highlighted that children of labourers from the city (42 per cent) recorded the highest interest to opt for professional courses such as BBA and hotel management. This trend was further followed by private services (28 per cent) and agriculture (16 per cent).  Out of the total strength of the city students surveyed, 57 per cent had scored more than 70 per cent marks in their higher secondary exams. This was much higher than the national average of 13 per cent of students who scored above 70 per cent marks in 12th grade for the above-mentioned regions.   Commenting on the survey findings, Manish Khanna, CEO, UEI Global Institute, said that the survey outcome highlights some interesting insights into the mind of the students. It is possible that the Thiruvananthapuram student community is slightly better aware of the global economic trends, he said.
