BANGALORE: The Legislative Assembly on Wednesday deferred the consideration of The Karnataka Regulation of Stone Crushers Bill, 2011, by a day after opposition parties raised several objections. The Bill, which seeks to replace an ordinance issued this September, contains guidelines for grant of license for stone crushers. Congress leader Siddaramaiah, T B Jayachandra and others suggested that the state government bring in a comprehensive policy to govern the stone crushing industry after consulting legal experts and those involved in the industry. However, Minister S Suresh Kumar tried to reason out the government’s exigency in enacting a legislation under directions of the Supreme Court and High Court, failing which the state would attract contempt of court action. The Karnataka Forest (Amendment) Bill, 2011, which proposes punishment for those who alter or deface boundary marks on forest land has been referred to the joint select committee. Meanwhile, the Assembly also passed the Karnataka Maritime Board Bill, 2011.
