KOCHI: The Kerala State Road Transport Employees Association (KSRTEA) is up in arms against the move of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to use part of the KSRTC’s new parking area in Karikkamuri as a casting yard during the construction of the metro rail. Expressing strong objections, the association said that DMRC should make alternative arrangements for the parking of KSRTC buses. The district administration team led by the tahsildar had identified and surveyed the land in the north-east entrance which is being used as parking area for the new buses operating in the city and neighbouring areas.“Since it is a marshy land, we had to do piling work before converting it into a parking area. DMRC is taking the land temporarily.""But where will we park the buses at night?" said C K Harikrishnan, KSRTEA district secretary. He said that KSRTC has given one acre 28 cents of land to DMRC earlier. This land for parking Thirukochi and Volvo buses was developed using `30 lakh from the Kochi Corporation. Stating that the place for parking KSRTC buses in the Vyttila hub has not been identified, he said that the association will not allow DMRC to use the area unless they do the land-filling of the nearby marshy land. “We are not against development but we should have been invited to participate in the discussion as the issue involves the KSRTC land,” he said.
