Chennai: Air India's much touted Dreamliner made its first flight from New Delhi to Chennai and was accorded a water cannon salute accompanied by traditional pujas on arrival at at the airport in Chennai.
The flight commandeered by Captain AS Soman touched down Chennai with 118 people amidst cheers and water cannon salute on the festival day of Vinakayaka Chaturthi.
Traditional pujas such as breaking of coconut to mark the first flight of the Dreamliner were also conducted. The flight later left for New Delhi with 92 fliers.
Equipped with modern in-flight facilities besides boasting new-age innovations which went into the manufacturing of the Dreamliner, the B787 was inducted into the fleet recently. "With its sophisticated, futuristic designs, Air India's B787 Dreamliner is the most advanced aircraft in the sky," with wing, nose, tail and flight deck windows having been engineered for 'maximum aerodynamic efficiency' among others, an official release said.
The aircraft interiors are designed to accommodate 256 seats covering both Business and Economy Classes and has features including dynamic LED cabin lighting, state-of-the-art in-flight Entertainment System. It is cleaner and more fuel efficient among others, it said.
It produces 20 per cent fewer emission than other similar sized planes and boasts of lower maintenance costs, it added.
