DU needs students better than Albert Einstein; 100.75% for Eco(H) in SRCC without economics in 12th

New Delhi: Seems like the University of Delhi is looking not for brilliant or exceptional students but those who are even better than Albert Einstein. The first cut-off list announced by the varsity in select courses and colleges is in the high 90s and in some cases even crosses 100% after taking into account a student who wishes to change his or her stream at the graduation level.

Most of the times, candidates applying for the undergraduate course choose a subject which is not included in his/her best of four subjects. In that case, he/she shall be at a disadvantage of 2.5% marks (10 marks), which means the cutoff for admissions will be calculated after deducting 10 marks from the total scored in best of four subjects.

For example: The cut-off of Shri Ram College of Commerce at 98.25% for BA Economics (Honours) means that a student who didn't have economics in class 12th needs needs to have 100.75% in the best of four subjects if he or she desires to secure admission in the college.

Also, a student who wants admission in College of Vocational Studies and did not have Computer Science as the best of four subjects in class XII, needs to secure 101.5% considering that the the cut-off in the college for the subject is 100%.

Also, for admissions in BA programme and B.Com programme, if there is a case of change of stream, say a student from science background is interested in admissions in a arts or commerce programme, he or she shall be at a disadvantage of 5% in best of four subjects marks.

The absurd cut-off list of the Delhi University, which is not even one of the top university in Asia and is ranked 81st according to the QS University Ranking of 2014, has led to several jokes on the social media too.
