BHUBANESWAR: Engineers of East Coast Railway (ECoR) have voiced their concern over the alleged apathy of the Railway authorities to their demands for cadre upgradation and pay hike. At the 4th annual general meeting of the East Coast Railway Engineers’ Association (ECoREA), the members were unanimous that the demand for a hike in the pay of diploma and degree engineers must be addressed at the earliest. Similarly, the demand for upgradation of their cadre to Group B gazetted has not been heeded to despite several rounds of agitations last year in front of the General Manager’s office. The engineers decided that mass dharnas, work-stoppages and mass leave will be resorted to in future if their demands are not met. ECoREA president Sudhamay Bajpai chaired the meeting.SEMINAR: A technical seminar was also held on the occasion. Chief Principal Engineer of ECoR L Kumar and Chief Administrative Officer, Construction Organisation, Omkar Singh attended. A discussion on ‘Role of engineers in development of Railways’ was held and general secretary of the association Bobin Mohanty conducted it.
