Every Stone, Weapon You Pick Makes J&K Unstable, Join Mainstream: PM Modi in Kashmir

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday directly appealed to the Kashmiri youth during his visit to the state and said that it was time for those indulging in stone pelting to become part of India’s development story. Stressing that the practice was taking the state down, Modi said the Centre was doing everything possible to engage the Kashmiri youth and bring them to the mainstream.

Modi was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the Kishanganga Hydroelectric Project (KHEP) in Srinagar, when he said, “All those who have picked up the stone or the weapon must know that it makes the state of Jammu & Kashmir unstable. We need to get out of this instability. For the future generations, it is important that they should join the mainstream not just in Kashmir, but also India’s,” adding that the contribution of the armed forces to help those in distress was incomparable.

“We are doing everything possible to ensure that the youth who have been influenced by foreign elements to attack their own motherland are brought back into mainstream,” Modi added. In a subtle message to Pakistan, he further added that those who have been trying to create a rift between ‘brothers’ are themselves falling apart.

“There is no power in the world that can alienate a brother from another. Those who have been trying to do it for years are now on the verge of falling apart,” Modi added. He also said that the state would see massive infrastructure development as the “security of the citizens and the country were of paramount importance to the government”.

Along with KHEP, he also laid the foundation stone for the Srinagar Ring Road at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) Srinagar.
