According to police, the fire broke out at the primary crusher house of the plant.On noticing the fire, plant workers M Shakthi (28) of Ceylon Colony, Ottapidaram, P Malraj (47) of Sorispuram, Thoothukudi, K Lavakumar (22) of Kovilpatti and K Hoogli (19) of Assam tried to douse it, but were charred when they were trapped.G Saravanakumar (33) of Ramanathapuram, G Sudalaimuthu (25) of Bungalow Street, S Nagendran (32) of Tiruchy, X Charles (31) of KVK Nagar, and R Sooriya Narayanan (21) of Tiruchy were injured as they jumped off the floor. Four persons were killed and five  injured in a fire accident at Ind-Barath Power Gencom Limited, a private thermal power plant near here on Tuesday.

The fire broke out at 11.30 am in the 3X63 MW coal-fired thermal power plant located near Pudur Pandiapuram, Thoothukudi. According to police, the fire broke out at the primary crusher house of the plant.
