BANGALORE: Retired school teachers suffering from arthritis can heave a sigh of relief, as Sparsh Foundation, the charitable wing of Sparsh Hospital, for the second consecutive year is conducting ‘Sparsh Guru Namana’, a programme under which 100 retired teachers will be offered free treatment for arthritis, including surgery, post-operative care and follow up.Chairman of Sparsh Hospital and Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr Sharan Shivraj Patil said, “Teachers render dedicated service but post-retirement they suffer from ailments like arthritis. Unable to afford the treatment most of them bear the disease all through their life. We want reach out to these ailing retired teachers.”The event is scheduled to be held for a week from September 5 onwards. A team of 20 specialists from India, UK and the USA, along with specialists from Sparsh Hospital, will conduct the surgeries. The team plans to conduct 15 to 16 surgeries per day and complete 100 joint replacement surgeries within a week.Speaking to The New Indian Express Dr Patil said, “This year the surgery at Sparsh is being done in collaboration with German-based Endo-clinic.On September 5 the programme will be launched by Narayan Murthy, Chief Mentor, Infosys.”Retired teachers will be screened on August 15 at Hubli, from August 16 to 20 at Sparsh Hospital,Infantry Road and at Raichur, the screening will be held on August 24.Only retired teachers are eligible to undergo the screening. Retired teachers are required to carry ID proof of their service, along with previous medical records.
