Khusboo was administered the tablet at about 11 am.Moments later, she vomitted and collapsed. “The post mortem report proves that there was no medicine content in the girl’s body. The cause of death was asphyxia,” Rekha Rani said, adding that the Department of Community Health and Family Welfare handed over a cheque for Rs 1.5 lakh to the family and a sum of Rs 10,000 for the funeral expenses. Also, the government has announced a JNNURM flat for the family. Khusboo was the second of Mamta and Bhani Mandal’s four children. Natives of Jharkhand, the family had migrated to the city five years ago and live at Nallakunta.Terming it an unfortunate incident, district medical and health officer (DM&HO) Ananth Reddy said the girl took the tablet soon after lunch and might have choked. “As she consumed the tablet, she vomited. The food particles thrown up choked the nose and went into the trachea and lungs. No reaction to the drug was found on the body and there was no content of the tablet in her body as per the post mortem report,” he said.District collector S A M Rizvi has sought a report from the DMHO and the district education officer (DEO). “We have already started an inquiry. About one crore tablets were distributed to children across the state and we are sending samples for tests.
