Uttarakhand government today decided to compensate shopkeepers who lost their goods in last year's calamity and give concession to over five lakh consumers in water tax.
It also decided to introduce a food security scheme of its own and fill vacancies in the education department.
The decisions were taken at a meeting of the state cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Harish Rawat, Chief Secretary Subhash Kumar told reporters.
Shopkeepers hit by the deluge last year will be compensated as per the value of their destroyed goods, Kumar said after the meeting.
Five categories have been created for payment of compensation to the owners of about 2,900 shops flattened or washed away between Tilwara and Kedarnath in Rudraprayag district in the flash-floods, he said.
90 per cent compensation will be given to traders who lost goods worth Rs 2 lakh and 80 per cent to those who suffered losses beyond Rs 2 lakh and worth up to Rs 30 lakh on the recommendation of the district magistrate concerned.
This will create an additional burden of Rs 35 crore to Rs 40 crore on the exchequer, the chief secretary said.
