It takes courage to challenge the terrifying waves of the sea which only fishermen dare to face. But recently, a woman from Dakshina Kannada district in Karnataka is garnering attention for her deep-sea fishing skills.

Mangaluru’s Prapthi Mendon Si has become the champion in Rani Bale fishing. Prapthi is the daughter of Captain Jayaprakash Mendon and Kalavati, a fisherman from Mangaluru, and has completed her degree in Fisheries from Mangaluru Fisheries College. She is currently studying in the final semester of her master’s degree in Fisheries.

As per Local18, Prapthi, who has developed the adventure of facing the waves of the sea, climbs a boat with her father at 4 in the morning every day and goes fishing. She is the first young woman to go fishing in the deep sea. Prapthi belongs to the Mogaveera community and has become an expert in the dangerous fishing of the rainy season. She was encouraged by her father, Captain Jayaprakash Mendon, who is also a professor in the College of Fisheries, he has been fishing since the age of 14.

Jai Vikrant Bengre, owned by her father, goes for catch fishing with the Rani Bale team. Prapthi, who has been going fishing for ten years, does not hesitate to go to the sea. Prapthi recently shared in a recent media interaction that one can achieve everything if there is encouragement.

Earlier a Kerala woman, Rekha KC, received much praise for becoming the first woman to obtain a license for deep-sea fishing. But recently she faced a deep crisis after her boat was damaged in a rough sea a few months ago. Rekha KC of Chettuva in Kerala’s Thrissur obtained a fishing license in 2018. She used to go fishing with her husband, Karthikeyan, to make a living for their family, which comprises four daughters.

They managed to buy a fishing boat, two engines, and a net with the support of well-wishers and a loan. Things were going on smoothly till June 3. On that ill-fated day, Rekha could not go fishing owing to illness. Karthikeyan ventured into the sea with two workers. While they were about to return with the catch, the sea became rough and the boat capsised.
