New Delhi: Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono began his two-day official visit to New Delhi aimed at boosting ties between the two countries.
Yudhoyono on Tuesday said his country is interested in exploring joint manufacturing possibilities in the industrial sector, particularly in the defence field, by leveraging Indian technologies.
Yudhoyono, a former Army general, will hold talks with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and meet India's defence and commerce ministers before leaving for Pakistan on Thursday.
The Indonesian leader's visit comes a day after Washington restored military ties with the most-populous Muslim nation as a reward for Jakarta's cooperation against al-Qaeda militants.
Both India and Indonesia have been attacked by Islamic militants and, like Jakarta, New Delhi has been successfully pushing closer strategic ties with the United States.
Yudhoyono and his entourge visited the Taj Mahal in Agra on Tuesday.
Both India and Indonesia are close to the Malacca Strait, one of the world's busiest shipping routes, and their navy ships patrol the area.
