Banned Islamic charity cries foul against United Nations.

New Delhi: Jamaat-ud-Dawa, the Islamic charity banned by the United Nations for being a front for the militant organisation Lashkar-e-Toiba, has warned Pakistan is making a “big mistake” by acting against it.

“The ban (by the UN Security Council) was one sided; we were not heard by the Security Council. They didn’t hear our clarification,” Abdullah Muntazir, a spokesperson for the Jamaat, told CNN-IBN from Pakistan on Tuesday.

“What the United States has done is just on the basis of what the Indian media has reported it went to the UN Security Council. The ban was one sided; we were not heard by the Security Council. They didn’t hear our clarification,” he said.

“The US demanded only three sanctions but the Pakistan government went way ahead of these sanctions. The Pakistani government arrested dozens of our workers, closed all offices and house arrested our top 10 leaders. So, what the Pakistani government is doing was not demanded by the US,” said Muntazir.

The Jamaat spokesperson warned Pakistan not to go after the organisation. “I don't know what the Pakistani government will do but this will be their very big mistake. This will not be at all acceptable for the people of Pakistan.

“Haafiz Saeed (Jamaat founder) has followers all over the Pakistan and it is not possible for the government of Pakistan to even think about handing over him to India,” said Muntazir.

Muntazir rejected allegations that Jamaat was a front for the Lashkar. “No, that is a total misconception. Jamaat-ud-Dawa is different and Lashkar-e-Toiba is different. The Lashkar is fighting against Indian rule and Kashmir and the Jamaat is doing welfare and education. We have no links with the Lashkar.”

Muntazir denied knowing the whereabouts of Lashkar founder Maulana Massod Azar, who is wanted by India for terrorism.
