JD-U MLA keeps on jungle raj in Bihar
Sunil Pandey, the legislator from Piro in Bhojpur district, stayed with his wife at a posh Patna hotel without paying.

Patna: A ruling JD-U MLA, who did not pay for his stay at a posh hotel in Patna or sign its guest register, threatened reporters who approached him at the premises.

Sunil Pandey, the legislator from Piro in Bhojpur district whose name was linked to the kidnapping of neurosurgeon A K Chandra last year, stayed with his wife Friday night in room number 401 in the hotel without making any entry in the register.

Reporters who had gone to the hotel to cover a function learnt of his presence there and went up to his room. When they knocked on the door of the room, a furious Pandey threatened to shoot them.

Asked repeatedly by reporters whether he had paid for his stay there, Pandey claimed the hotel owed him over Rs 47 lakh.

Pandey vacated the room Saturday afternoon, and a senior police official and hotel employees said on condition of anonymity that the MLA had done stayed there without paying in the past too.

When Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was asked by reporters about the activities of Pandey, he said, "Lodge a complaint and the police will take action impartially."

Senior Superintendent of Police Kundan Krishnan told PTI, "Nobody has complained against the MLA and by the time police reached the hotel, he had left the place."

Opposition RJD President Abdul Bari Siddiqui said, "This shows the kind of 'sushasan' (good governance) prevailing in Bihar."
