Jet Spray, Toilet Seat Cover Among Rs 1.2L Bathroom Fittings Stolen from Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus
The incident comes days after the Central Railway of the Mumbai Division announced the installation of ‘state-of-the-art’ facilities at the toilet facility at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus

Taps and pipe fittings worth Rs 1.2 lakh have been stolen from the toilet facility at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus in Mumbai. The railways have filed an official complaint with the police and also raised the issue of monitoring and keeping tabs on public amenities.

The incident comes a week after the Central Railway of the Mumbai Division shared that they had installed ‘state-of-the-art’ facilities at the toilet facility of Chhatrapati Shivaji Mahar

“Experience the future of comfort! Check out the new state-of-the-art toilet facility at CSMT – where modern design meets convenience. Elevating your station experience!” the Central Railway of the Mumbai Division had written on X (formerly Twitter), while sharing a video.

According to sources, the stolen fittings include a jet spray, faucets, toilet seat covers, bottle traps, and stopcock valves.

However, the thieves have not been identified yet and it is suspected that some railway employees or contractual workers could have orchestrated the theft.

A user took to X, sharing pictures of the missing fittings. In the pictures shared on social media, one can notice the taps missing on wash basins and water pipes missing from urinals.

“It started on Saturday with theft in the running room toilets. The running room is where train drivers and guards come for rest and break. In this, eight bib cocks, nine stop cocks, and jet sprays were stolen. On Monday, three pillar cocks were stolen from the ladies toilet and another from the gents toilet and also the new AC toilet,” an official told Mid-day.

Central Railway chief public relations officer Dr Swapnil Nila confirmed the incident and told Mid-day that the railways have taken the thefts seriously and have filed an FIR with the government railway police and raised monitoring.
