J&K: Project halted under Chinese pressure
This is third time in the past three years that a major development project has been suspended under Chinese pressure.

Jammu: China is back to its bullying ways. An irrigation project in progress at Demchok in Jammu and Kashmir near the Line of Actual Control has been temporarily halted after Chinese soldiers objected to it.

Sources say the Chinese Army has reportedly threatened the project contractor, officials and workers to suspend all work. The project, which began in 2004, is aimed at lifting water from the Indus river and releasing it through a 3.5 km long irrigation canal in Ladakh district.

This is third time in the past three years that a major development project has been suspended or abandoned under Chinese pressure in the region.
