KOCHI: The Spices Board is all set to cash in on the Indian Railways’ proposal to operate a train for facilitating movement of products from the state to North Indian destinations. The Trivandrum Division of the Southern Railways has mooted the plan to operate a train service mainly for the movement of Agro-based products for small and medium-scale entrepreneurs and farmers of Kerala to different upcountry marketing centres in North India.The new train, named ‘Kairali Queen’, will facilitate a faster and cheaper mode of transport.The train will help in transporting spices such as cardamom, pepper, ginger, turmeric, nutmeg, mace, clove, cinnamon, tamarind, garcinia, spices powders, mixes and blends besides rubber, cashew, clay and coir products.It has been pointed out that these products have strong markets in North India.In an effort to make use of the new facility, the Spices Board is organising an interaction with traders, exporters, NGOs, farmer groups, farmers and officials of various farm-oriented enterprises.Those interested can contact P S S Thampi, Deputy Director (Publicity), Spices Board, Kochi- 25 or email: [email protected]
