Islamabad: UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has described the Kashmir stand-off as the most important issue in South Asia and expressed satisfaction over Pakistan's investigation into the Mumbai attacks, reports Geo TV.
Addressing a joint press conference with Pakistan's Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on Wednesday, he urged Pakistan to cooperate with India in its probe into the attacks.
"Ban described the Kashmir stand-off as the most important issue of South Asia and also appreciated Pakistan's role in the war on terror," the report said.
Gilani said that Pakistan was against terrorism in all its forms and those who commit criminal acts outside the country would be brought to justice.
He added that Pakistan would not allow use of its territory for terrorist activities.
Some 170 people were killed in the Nov 26-29 Mumbai terror attacks.
UN forms three-member team to probe Benazir's killing
The UN Secretary General announced a three-member commission to investigate former Pakistani prime minister Benazir Bhutto's assassination.
The UN chief, who arrived from Afghanistan on Wednesday afternoon, said at a press conference that the global organisation was ready to assist Pakistan in tackling the challenges it is facing.
According to state run television, Ban said while addressing the conference with Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani that a prosperous Pakistan is in the interest of all.
He expressed grief at the kidnapping of a UN official and the slaying of his driver in Pakistan a few days ago.
Gilani said Pakistan is deeply committed to the vision and charter of the UN.
"We assure full support to the UN for its various programmes underway in different parts of the world for the cause of establishing peace," he said.
