THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) failed to achieve targets in the power transmission side during 2011, according to the Economic Review 2011 released here on Saturday.Of the 41 sub-stations planned during the period, only eight were commissioned, while only 51.96 circuit km of 484.26 km planned materialised. Thirteen 110 KV sub-stations were planned during the review period, of which only five were commissioned. Four 66 KV sub-stations were planned, but only one became operational. Of twenty-four 33 KV sub-stations planned, only seven became operational during this period, according to the Economic Review. At present, Kerala has 348 sub-stations, two 400 KV ones and 17 220 KV ones and 10,842 circuit kms of transmission lines.  On the power distribution side, the power utility exceeded the targets set in giving service connections and installing Low Tension lines. “During 2011-12, 442611 service connections were given as against the target of 4,25,221 connections and 3644.67 kms of 11 KV lines, 5800 numbers of transformers and 6928.69 kms of LT lines were commissioned,’’ the Economic Review said.The power availability as on March 31, 2011, stood at 15996.07 million units a year whereas the demand was 17739.51 millions units. By the end of the 11th plan period, annual consumption is expected to go upto 19,320 million units.On March 31, 2011, the installed capacity in Kerala stood at 2857.59 MW, and the Economic Review lists 28 hydel projects as being in the pipeline and which could add 543.30 MW to the installed capacity.
