THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala University Union is in a happy mood. After a long time, the drama festival being organised by the Union at the University College is seeing a good participation, with around 15 teams. There was a food fest happening in the next building and the hullabaloo of farewell parties could be heard from many classes; still, at the centenary hall of the college, the theatre fest attracted its own audience.  The first college to take the centrestage was St Xavier’s College, Thumba. ‘Thalamura’, a play staged by them, stuck to the traditional settings and milieu of drama. Mannam Memorial NSS College, Kottiyam, presented ‘Mizhineerpookal’ a play subtly mocking the society’s hypocrisy in family relations. On the backstage, the P A Aziz College of Engineering and Government College, Attingal, were preparing themselves for their turns,  donning the costumes and putting on the make-up.  ‘’We are having the best participation in years. Some 11 teams have already registered today and on Wednesday, we hope to have some five to six teams. The experienced teams will present their plays on Wednesday, so we expect more turnout then,’’ said M Harikrishnan, KU Union Chairman.  The theatre fest was inaugurated by film-maker Adoor Gopalakrishnan and will conclude on Wednesday. The Union plans to organise a film festival in May next, chairman Harikrishnan said.
