KOCHI: There seems to be no end in sight for the battle between the nurses and the management at the Lakeshore Hospital. Keeping up a touch stance, the nurses at the hospital will launch a relay hunger strike on the hospital premises from Monday, pressing for their various demands. The United Nurses Association, which is spearheading the agitation, has been protesting against the alleged “high-handedness” of the hospital management for several weeks now.  “Ahead of the relay hunger strike, a protest march will be held from Madavana to Lakeshore hospital,” UNA president Jasmine Shah said on Sunday. He reiterated that one of the major demands of the UNA was to reinstate six of the nurses who had been dismissed from the hospital.“The management will also have to fulfill the terms of the agreement that it signed in the presence of Labour Minister Shibu Baby John,” he added.Refuting the management’s claims that some of the striking nurses had withdrawn from the agitation and returned to work, Shah dared the management to name a single such nurse.“About 500 nurses are on strike. Not one of them has rejoined duty,” Shah asserted and alleged that the management was even threatening the striking nurses with dismissal from the hospital.Meanwhile, Lakeshore Hospital in a statement said that normalcy had returned to the functioning of the hospital.  It also said that some of the nurses had resigned from the UNA and joined their duties.
