Mamata's Singur war not over yet
Even as Mamata Banerjee is planning to march to Singur on Saturday, the WB govt is extending prohibitory orders.

New Delhi: Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee hasn’t given up on Singur yet and has vowed to fight a pitched battle against Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee.

Even as she is determined to march to the disputed Singur area - where Tata Motors is setting up its small car plant - on Saturday, the West Bengal government is planning to extend the prohibitory orders there.

Home Secretary P R Roy was quoted by news agency PTI as saying, "We will not allow anybody to defy the ban. If necessary, prohibitory orders under section 144 Crpc may be extended in Singur."

The prohibitory orders, reimposed on the midnight of February 4, were to end on February 14.

Roy also said that there had been a change in venue for Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee's meeting at Singur on February 15. It would be held at Haripal, near Singur, outside the prohibitory orders bound area.

On Sunday, Mamata Banerjee had held a public rally, warning the Buddhadeb government against more land acquisition for the proposed SEZ in the area.

Meanwhile, the Calcutta High Court directed the West Bengal government to file an affidavit with details of the compensation given for the land acquired at Singur for Tata as also the total number of beneficiaries.
