Ferguson was happy with Solskjaer's performance but is hoping to see more encouraging signs from his touring party.

United will stay in Cape Town for another match on Saturday against the winner of a match between the Pirates and the Chiefs and then return to England for a series of friendlies leading up the the start of their Premiership season on August 20 at home against Fulham.

"Tomorrow we have to show a little bit better in terms of team play, rhythm and tempo and we know it's going to be a more difficult game. Kaizer Cheifs are reportedly better than Orlando Pirates," Alex Ferguson said.

"We expect a really good game and hopefully our young players can rise to it and show a bit of development, which was one of the main reasons for taking young players on tours like this. You hope that one or two of those young players break through and are ready for your first team," he added.
