KOZHIKODE: Special Additional District Sessions Court (Marad cases) special judge R Narayana Pisharody on Thursday acquitted four juveniles in conflict with law (JCL) after considering their appeal for invalidating the order of the three-member board in June 2010. With this, the earlier judgment of the Kozhikode Juvenile Justice Board that slapped three years of probation and a fine of Rs. 22,500 on the four JCLs for their involvement in Marad carnage on May 2, 2003, became invalid. The Crime Branch - Crime Investigation Department (CB-CID) had charge-sheeted the juveniles for their crimes. The three-member board, comprising Principal Magistrate S H Panchapakesan and members C Radhakrishnan and K K Shini, had directed that the “JCL be released on probation of good conduct and placed them under the care of their parents or guardians on the execution of a bond for Rs. 25,000 with two solvent sureties each for the like sum and one of the parents or guardians should sign bond along with the sureties for the good behaviour and well-being of the JCL for a period of three years”. However, the order of the special court will not be applicable to a JCL who had fled to Saudi Arabia after securing bail.
