BHUBANESWAR: The State-level annual festival for school-goers, Suravi-2011, an initiative of the School and Mass Education Department, is all set to pamper the participants with an array of diverse events. Slated to commence on November 12, the two-day affair at Unit-IX Boys High School here includes a marathon cycle rally and a workshop on film-making, apart from the regular dose of dance, theatre and magic. The marathon cycle rally from the Forest Park to Unit-IX Boys High School, featuring around 600 students, will mark the inauguration of the event. This apart, 30 students from across the State have been shortlisted for a film-making workshop, purported to give exposure to the participants to the varied aspects of film- making. The workshop is scheduled to commence on Tuesday and would stretch till the concluding day of the event, during which the participants will shoot a documentary on Suravi-2011, to be screened at the valedictory function. “It will be a unique experience for the kids as they can learn the nitty-gritty of film-making from experts. They will also get a chance to make their own film based on the festival,” said Odiya film director Gadadhar Puty, coordinator of the workshop. Noted film-makers of the Odiya film industry, Jugal Debata, Chakradhar Sahu, Himansu Khatua, Subas Das, Susant Mani and Dilip Panda will be present as resource persons at the workshop. In addition, sand artist of international repute, Sudarshan Patnaik will conduct a workshop on sand art. “We have planned a setup similar to the Puri beach at the venue, where the students will be taught various techniques of the art form,” said Sudarshan. Workshops like ‘Mathematics is Fun’ and ‘Science in Everyday life,’ aimed at presenting science in a lucid and enjoyable manner and interactive models pertaining to school-level mathematics curriculum has been lined up. The festival will also feature singing, acting, dancing, quiz, creative writing and fancy dress competitions. This apart, a children’s film festival, mock parliament and a visit to heritage sites of the city have been organised, sources said. A new addition to the festival this year is ‘Meet-the-Artist’ where the children will get an opportunity to interact with their favourite artists from various streams.This year, Suravi-2011 is a three-tier competitive event where the preliminary level was organised at the block level on October 22. The winners then competed at the district-level festival on November 4. The winners from the districts will assemble at Bhubaneswar to participate in the third and final round of competition.
