Paramilitary forces have been deployed in Gorakhpur, which staged a flag march in the riot-torn city.

New Delhi: Gorakhpur is still tense after the arrest of BJP MP Yogi Adityanath on Sunday night.

Fresh reports of violence came in from eastern regions of Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday even as the city is still seething under the impact of the arrest.

Paramilitary forces have been deployed in Gorakhpur, which staged a flag march in the riot-torn city to reassure the citizens that they would be protected at all costs.

State Police Chief Bua Singh has rushed to the city and has announced that all steps would be taken to restore normalcy in the state.

State Home Secretary A K Sinha was quoted by PTI as saying that at present, paramilitary forces including Rapid Action Force, Shasastra Seema Bal and Provincial Armed Constabulary have been deployed in the affected areas and in areas around the city from where reports of arson and violence are still pouring in.

The curfew has yet to be lifted though PTI reported that essential supplies would be made available to the residents.

Sinha told PTI that so far over 200 people including those accused of being involved in two killings in the town were taken into custody in connection with the violence.

He said that curfew was imposed in Padrauna in Kushinagar district on Tuesday evening following incidents of arson, looting and torching of shops and vehicles. Some journalists also sustained injuries in the violence there, he said.

He was also quoted as saying that the Additional Director General of Police of Railways had been directed to ensure deployment of security personnel on the trains keeping in view the torching of some trains in parts of the state's eastern region.
