HYDERABAD: Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and leader of the opposition N Chandrababu Naidu traded charges against each other during the debate on the motion of thanks to the governor for his address in the state Assembly on Thursday. Exsperared by the frequent interruption of his speech by the Telugu Desam members, Reddy, at one stage, made a certain remark against Naidu on Emaar deal which led to a furore and stalling of the proceedings for a while.Speaker Nadendla Manohar disallowed Naidu’s plea to clarify on Emaar. This made TDP members rush to podium and shout “protect the rights of the Opposition”.It was countered by treasury benches who were equally vociferous in shouting “the attitude of the opposition should change”.Finally, Naidu was given an opportunity to explain his point and expose the sevenyear rule of YS Rjasekhara Reddy.“The Congress is responsible for the corruption. The chief minister spoke of developmental activities but conveniently kept silent on corruption. The Congress looted the mineral wealth and took kickbacks in the name of Jalayagnam. If the government punished corrupt leaders, the TDP will welcome it and support the government.” The image of the state was tarnished by scams and CBI cases, Naidu said and advised the chief minister to rectify the mistakes and bring good image to the state.Though the chief minister, in his lengthy speech, spoke of the developmental activities, he did not take the name of YS Rajasekhara Reddy.Kiran Reddy said his government was committed to the welfare of the poor. The construction of houses were going on at a brisk pace and agriculture was accorded top priority.Responding to BJP member’s demand, the chief minister said: “I will not speak on the sensitive issue. If we talk about it we have too talk also on the problems people suffered on account of Sakala Janula Samme. The state will follow whatever decision the Centre will take.’’ Not satisfied with the reply, TDP, CPM and BJP members staged a walkout. The House then unanimously adopted the resolution thanking the Governor for his address to both the Houses CM on Development* Construction of gowdowns to store 10 lakh tonnes of foodgrains by April and 15 lakh tonnes by March 2013.* `2,500 crore for farm mechanisation in the coming three years * To strive for national project status for Polavaram and Pranahita-Chevella (tender notification for Pranahita bright as Maharashtra is willing for an agreement on the project) * Fresh tenders for Polavaram in two months * Around one lakh jobs will be provided to youth in Chittoor district alone in three years * `23,000 crore earmarked in the budget for welfare of the poor
