With the Congress party receiving the crushing defeat at the hands of resurgent BJP led by Narendra Modi in recent Lok Sabha elections, the internal dissent is resurfacing evidently and vigirously. The Madhya Pradesh youth leaders from the Congress offered a new dimension to this internal unrest on Thursday.
The party youth leaders alleged that organiational election format introduced in last few years has weakened the party structure and should be done away with.
Interestingly, the AICC vice president Rahul Gandhi had formulated the internal election system form Youth Congress and NSUI in Madhya Pradesh and other states a few years ago. Aferwards, the YC and NSUI state heads and officebearers were elected through internal elections and no longer were nominated by party state heads.
The party only had managed two seats out of 29 seats in LS polls.
However as the party top brass huddled together on Thursday in Bhopal for discussing reasons behind party’s dismal show in the state in recent elections, the Youth Congress and National Student Union of India minced no words while flaying the prevalent favouritism and factionalism in the party.
These young leaders told their seniors on the face that they are pushed forward when it comes to taking to streets and braving canes during agitations but only near and dear ones of the senior leaders get election tickets.
A senior YC functionary wishing anonymity said that perhaps now AICC Vive President Rahul Gandhi would start recognising local leaders and might find time to meet them, which was not the case prior to disastrous LS polls.
Referring to senior leaders who tasted defeat in the LS polls, the YC and NSUI officebearers demanded chunk of representation in the upcoming local body elections.
The YC officebearers also demanded representations in the Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee.
Congress state head Arun Yadav who convened this post LS polls review along with other leaders accepted that youths should be offered greater representation in the party organisation.
Yadav also announced that youths would be given maximum tickets in coming local body polls in the state.
Later party state spokesperson KK Mishra claimed that the response from the youths should not be termed as anguish. “These youths were full energy and enthusiasm for the party work,” he claimed, adding that Yadav has assured youths for conveying their sentiments to party high command.
