Amid Ganeshotsav festivities, a moderate spells of showers is expected in Mumbai and its suburbs throughout this week.
On Sunday, the IMD issued a yellow alert for Thane and Palghar districts, while no warning has been issued for the metropolis.

The week starting September 9, the IMD’s forecast said Mumbai as well as the suburbs would witness partly cloudy sky with the possibility of occasional moderate spells of rain.
For last week, IMD had issued a ‘yellow’ alert for Mumbai, indicating heavy rain at isolated places. In the 24-hour period ending Sunday 8.30am, IMD Santacruz and Colaba observatories recorded 82.6mm and 46.4mm rain, respectively.
Since the onset of the monsoon in June, the Santacruz weather station has registered 2,514 mm of rain, nearly nine per cent above the seasonal average of 2,318 mm.
The total stock in the city’s seven lakes plummeted to 97.75 per cent (14.14 lakh million litres) on Sunday morning. Mumbai receives its water supply from seven lakes—Tulsi, Vihar, Bhatsa, Modak Sagar, Tansa, Upper Vaitarna and Middle Vaitarna—which get filled during the four monsoon months.
Ganeshotsav 2024
The ten-day Ganeshotsav is being celebrated with full fanfare across Mumbai and other parts of country with devotees visiting the Ganpati temples and mandals in large numbers to have darshan of their deity.
People continued to throng in large numbers to big and famous Ganpati mandals, including,’Lalbaugcha Raja’ Ganesh Mandal and ‘Chinchpokli Cha Chintamani’ in central Mumbai, to take darshan of the deity.
Around Rs 48,30,000 was received as donation on the first day of Ganeshotsav 2024 at Lalbaugcha Raja Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal.
